The project

In order to meet the school’s growing need for new spaces, the original building designed by the architect Jean-Jacques Tchumi in the ‘80s is extended with an additional floor. Within its faceted geometry, the extension is respectful with the original architectural intentions and it defines seven new classrooms.

The load-bearing structure consists of primary walls and a roof shell structure made up of cross-laminated and glulam timber. All structural timber is exposed, thus defining the materiality of the spaces. The classrooms are accessible from the exterior side through a reinforced concrete corridor having a polygonal layout and resting on the existing frame.
